The Nobilo Foundation goal is to support underprivileged children in Orlando, Florida. “The Lend a Hand Golf Day” is the foundations flagship event which helps to raise the necessary funds. In the process strengthening the local community by connecting volunteers, patrons, sponsors and schools with the common vision to create opportunities and provide support for the youth of Orlando.
For more than 20 years, Orlando, Florida has been the “home away from home” for Frank and Selena Nobilo. As a player on the PGA TOUR, Frank (now a TV analyst) was involved in many charitable endeavors on the TOUR as was his wife, Selena, through the PGA TOUR Wives Association. Frank explains “when I retired from playing professional golf, it made sense to set up this Foundation to raise money and reach as many charities as possible.” Selena, a volunteer of Orlando’s Hubbard House for over a decade, adds “being able to give back to our community gives us a sense of purpose.”
The Nobilos became involved in the Lend a Hand Golf Day back in 2003 and after several years it was obvious to them that a more direct involvement was necessary to better aid the local community.
The Foundation was formed in September of 2011 and the inaugural Nobilo Foundation Lend a Hand Golf Day was on November 26th, 2012. The Foundation is managed by a committed Board of Directors who bring with them impressive professional expertise in multinational corporations, legal practice and finance. The Directors are united in their focus to raise money to support the poor, needy and underprivileged children and families in central Florida.
To date the Foundation has raised more than $750,000 and in the process Selena has closed in on her own personal goal of taking 1,000 children shopping each year.
The Nobilo Foundation views Christmas as a time for family and giving generously. Each year Frank, Selena, the Foundation Directors and hundreds of volunteers accompany as many underprivileged children as possible on a shopping extravaganza. Each child is chaperoned by a volunteer and has $100 to purchase gifts/essential supplies for themselves and family members. The feedback received from the volunteers is quite amazing; “This makes you realize what Christmas is all about”… “The smiles on the children’s faces last a lifetime.” For many it is an emotional experience.
Due to the success of the Foundation the Nobilos have deepened their commitment to financially assisting Cypress Park Elementary School providing the families with clothing etc. and enhancing the school’s facilities to increase the odds of these children succeeding in their education. In addition to the financial assistance the introduction of a volunteer program; “The Mustang Reading Mentors” now in its 4th year is a volunteer group that help tutor children at the school – all students have progressed amazingly well. The Foundation aims to continue their support of other Florida based charities, such as Hubbard House, Blessings in a Back Pack, Arnold Palmer Hospital, Els for Autism and the Immokalee Foundation.
In 2017 the Lend a Hand Golf Day and Fundraising dinner raised over $100,000 which was spent on taking underprivileged children shopping in December.
